Muztagh Ata glacier experiences massive avalanche in Xinjiang
A large avalanche occurred on Glacier No. 2 of Muztagh Ata in Xinjiang, China. The event, which was captured on video by tourists, produced a wall of snow and ice measuring over 100 meters wide and several hundred meters high.
According to official reports, the avalanche took place in an uninhabited area far from main roads, resulting in no reported casualties or property damage. Due to increased glacial activity risks, authorities have closed Glacier No. 2 to visitors.
The Akto County Culture and Tourism Bureau has issued warnings to tourists, advising against entering unauthorized high-risk zones. Officials highlighted the dangers of the region, including complex terrain, rapid weather changes, weak communication signals, and difficult rescue conditions.
