MV Agusta halts production amid sales decline and failed CFMoto deal

Italian motorcycle manufacturer MV Agusta is facing a severe financial crisis, leading to a reported halt in production at its Schiranna factory in Varese. The company’s struggles follow the collapse of a planned investment deal with the Chinese manufacturer CFMoto.

Negotiations with CFMoto, which reportedly included a plan for the Chinese firm to acquire 49 percent of the brand's capital and support a potential entry into MotoGP, failed after the parties could not agree on financial terms. Reports suggest CFMoto representatives ended discussions, citing MV Agusta’s financial demands as unreasonable.

The company is also experiencing a significant decline in sales. While MV Agusta had set a target to sell 4,000 motorcycles in 2025 with a long-term goal of 10,000 units, sales figures have fallen far short. Since the beginning of 2026, only 1,238 units have been sold, representing a substantial drop compared to previous years and stated ambitions.
