MV Hondius arrives in Puerto Madryn to start cruise season
The MV Hondius, an Oceanwide Expeditions polar cruise ship, has arrived at the Comandante Luis Piedra Buena pier in Puerto Madryn, marking the start of the 2026/2027 cruise season in Chubut, Argentina.
The 97-meter vessel, flying the flag of the Netherlands, arrived with 58 crew members and no passengers on board. During its stop, the ship is scheduled to embark 164 guests, add 12 service staff, and conduct provisioning tasks. The vessel is slated to depart on November 3, continuing its itinerary toward the Falkland/Malvinas Islands.
The ship previously gained attention in April of this year following a reported Hanta virus outbreak on board after visiting Argentine Patagonia and departing from the Port of Ushuaia. Its arrival in Golfo Nuevo is expected to support local tourism and the provincial economy through coordinated efforts between the Puerto Madryn Port Administration, the Chubut government, and various maritime and tourism agencies.
