MÁV initiates nationwide railway station modernization program

Hungarian railway operator MÁV is conducting a nationwide station renovation program to modernize aging infrastructure and improve passenger comfort.

In the Balaton region, an approximately 881 million HUF investment is underway to upgrade stations along the northern and southern shores. At Balatonlelle, the existing building will be replaced by a 507 m² contemporary facility featuring solar panels, air conditioning, and modern passenger information systems. Nearby, the Balatonboglár station, a locally protected site, will undergo extensive interior and exterior renovations, including new windows, climate control, and accessible parking. Other smaller stops such as Polgárdi, Füle, and Csittényhegy are also slated for improvements to replace unsustainable or hazardous structures.

In eastern Hungary, the Felsőzsolca station has completed its renovation. As a junction for the 80 and 90 lines, the facility received updated facades, new windows, and improved accessibility for the waiting rooms and restrooms. The project also included the installation of a new security system with cameras and alarms, as well as a covered bicycle storage area. This follows recent track maintenance on the 36-kilometer stretch of the Miskolc–Felsőzsolca–Hidasnémeti line.
