MÁV rolls out heatwave relief measures and rail line upgrades

Hungarian railway operator MÁV announced emergency actions in response to an extended heatwave. The company will supply free drinking water at its busiest stations and install shade canopies during the hottest hours, while urging passengers to travel early and purchase tickets in advance.

At the same time, MÁV is carrying out a multi‑stage renovation of its main 100‑numbered line, removing speed restrictions and replacing track sections to raise permissible speeds to 120 km/h. Work began on June 20 and will continue through July, affecting routes between Budapest, Debrecen, and other regional hubs, and will require temporary timetable adjustments for InterCity services.
