MÁV Schedules Summer Track Closures on Budapest‑Pécs and Nyíregyháza Lines

The Hungarian state railway operator MÁV announced summer track‑closure works beginning on 26 May. The first project covers the Budapest–Pécs main line between Rétszilas and Dombóvár and will last about a month. After the temporary closure, travel time on this section is expected to be reduced by roughly three minutes.

A second, larger‑scale project starts on 27 May on the 100C line between Szerencs and Nyíregyháza, continuing throughout the summer. It includes extensive bridge maintenance between Rakamaz and Tokaj, removal of slow‑signal speed‑restriction signs, and reconstruction of several road crossings. Both closures will involve significant traffic restrictions, additional bus replacement services, and longer journey times for passengers.

MÁV CEO Hegyi Zsolt said the works are classified as maintenance aimed at restoring the original condition of the tracks and improving long‑term reliability. To ease disruption, direct highway bus routes will run between Budapest and Pécs as well as between Miskolc and Debrecen during the construction period.
