MVP discusses WWE Wellness Program impact and modern wrestling trends
Professional wrestler MVP has discussed the impact of the WWE Wellness Program, stating it helped eradicate the drug and steroid culture within the locker room. He noted that the program provided a top-down effect that reduced the sharing of pills and helped save lives by addressing the pharmaceutical abuse that had historically led to tragedies in the industry.
MVP also credited the program with potentially saving his own life. During a standard physical examination required by the program, he was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a condition involving an extra electrical pathway in the heart that can cause abnormal rhythms and sudden cardiac arrest.
In a separate commentary regarding modern wrestling, MVP expressed his view that many current performers are hesitant to embrace “heel” (villainous) roles. He suggested that many wrestlers prefer to be cheered or occupy a “tweener” role because they lack the courage to fully commit to being a disliked character.
