Mwangi wa Iria arraigned over Ksh351 million corruption case

Former Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria and six co-accused have been arraigned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court following amended charges brought by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The case involves the alleged fraudulent awarding of a media buying services contract to Top Image Media Consultants Limited between October 2014 and June 2017, resulting in a loss of approximately Ksh351 million in public funds.

The amended charges include five counts of money laundering, unlawful acquisition of public property, conflict of interest, and dealing with suspect property. Prosecutors allege that Wa Iria received Ksh31.8 million linked to these contracts, part of which was allegedly used to acquire property in Nairobi and purchase houses.

Wa Iria and the other accused individuals have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Due to the amendments, 13 prosecution witnesses who previously testified are expected to return to court for further examination and cross-examination.
