Mwanza farmers adopt regenerative agroforestry to combat climate challenges

In the Mwanza region of Tanzania, located along the southern shores of Lake Victoria, farmers are increasingly adopting regenerative agroforestry to combat challenges posed by changing weather patterns, land degradation, and declining soil fertility. These environmental shifts have historically led to unpredictable harvests, impacting local food security and income stability.

Since 2024, the organization Trees for the Future (TREES) has partnered with over 1,200 farmers in the area. The initiative provides training and resources, including workshops on grafting techniques and the provision of rain barrels for water collection. The transition to regenerative methods aims to restore land, diversify crops, rebuild soil health, and sequester carbon while improving biodiversity and economic resilience.
