Mwisho Mhango makes first-team debut for Hannover 96

Malawian forward Mwisho Mhango made his first-team debut for Hannover 96 during a DFB-Pokal Cup match against FC Kaiserslautern. The 19-year-old entered the game as a substitute in the 80th minute, replacing Emir Sahit, though the club ultimately lost the match 2-0.

Mhango joined the German club in September 2025 from the Lilongwe-based Ascent Soccer Academy on a five-year contract. Following his move, he underwent an integration period within the club’s academy before being elevated to the main squad. His professional rise follows a standout performance at the 2025 COSAFA Under-20 Championship, where he earned both the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament honors.

The young attacker has also been integrated into the Malawi national team, having previously played for the Under-17 and Under-20 sides. He recently earned a call-up to the senior Malawi Flames squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
