MXR releases M400 Turbo Tuner in collaboration with Sonic Research

MXR has launched its first tuner pedal, the M400 Turbo Tuner, developed in collaboration with Sonic Research. The device utilizes the core engine of the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner, featuring strobe technology designed by founder Roger Schlichtig.

Unlike standard digital tuners, the M400 uses an analog signal to drive a strobe display, providing fraction-of-a-cent accuracy with zero lag. The visual interface uses a spinning pattern that rotates right for sharp notes and left for flat notes, slowing as the instrument reaches perfect pitch. The pedal includes four brightness levels for various lighting conditions.

Key features include five customizable presets for instruments with up to 12 strings, allowing for microtonal tunings or offsets of up to 50 cents per string. The M400 also offers a switchable buffer with three sub-modes: muting during tuning, staying active with footswitch muting, or passing signal through while toggling the display. The unit is designed to support both guitar and bass low-end tracking.
