My Chanh railway bridge struck by three barges in Quang Tri
The Ministry of Construction has requested the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee and relevant agencies to urgently handle an incident involving three barges that collided with and became stuck at the My Chanh railway bridge.
On September 13, 2026, heavy rains caused by a tropical depression led to rising water levels and strong currents in the O Giang River. These conditions swept three barges downstream, causing them to strike the My Chanh railway bridge on the North-South railway line. While no casualties were reported, the incident caused a temporary blockade of the My Chanh - Dien Sanh section to ensure safety. Initial inspections revealed damage to an information cable conduit upstream.
The Ministry has directed Vietnam Railways to assess the load-bearing capacity of the bridge structure and implement emergency repairs if damage is found. Authorities are also tasked with investigating the cause and determining the responsibility of any organizations or individuals involved in the incident.
