My Chemical Romance achieves first No. 1 album with 20th anniversary reissue

My Chemical Romance has reached the top of the Billboard 200 for the first time in their career with the 20th anniversary deluxe reissue of their 2006 rock opera, “The Black Parade.” The album jumped from No. 139 to No. 1 on the chart dated November 7, surpassing Olivia Rodrigo’s “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love” to take the top spot.

The reissue earned 78,000 equivalent album units during the charting week ending October 29, driven by a significant increase in physical album sales. This achievement sets a new Billboard 200 record for the longest interval between an album’s original release and its first No. 1 ranking, surpassing the previous record held by Toby Keith.

In addition to its success in the United States, the deluxe edition also reached No. 1 on the United Kingdom’s Official Albums Chart. The band celebrated the milestone following a residency at the Hollywood Bowl and continues to perform the album in its entirety during their current tour.
