Myagdi tourism recovers as Beni-Jomsom road reopens
Tourism in Nepal’s Myagdi district is seeing a revival following the repair of the Beni-Jomsom road, a critical route linking the district to Mustang. The road had been blocked due to landslides and flooding caused by the Kali Gandaki River in October, which had reduced tourist arrivals to nearly zero.
With the restoration of transport services, visitors are returning to popular trekking destinations including Poon Hill, Annapurna Base Camp, Ghodepani, and various natural hot springs. Local business owners expect an increase in both domestic and international travelers during the Dashain and Tihar festival seasons, which coincide with the peak autumn trekking months.
While the reopening provides a significant lifeline for hotels and transport operators, some local officials note that international numbers may not fully match previous years due to the extent of the earlier weather-related disruptions and infrastructure damage across the region.
