Myasthenia gravis affects 15,000 people in Italy
Myasthenia gravis, a rare and chronic autoimmune disease characterized by muscle weakness and fatigue, affects more than 15,000 people in Italy. The condition impacts the neuromuscular junction, disrupting the transmission of impulses from motor nerve fibers to muscles. This can affect voluntary muscles, including the ocular and bulbar regions, limbs, and respiratory functions, sometimes requiring mechanical ventilation.
To improve disease management, the ‘Training Xperience’ project was implemented to focus on personalizing therapeutic pathways, improving treatment response monitoring, and integrating various treatment modalities into clinical practice. This field training initiative involved three major neurological centers in Lombardy: Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta, IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, and Ospedale Papa Giovanni XXIII in Bergamo. The project was conducted with non-conditional support from Argenx.
