Mycologists document new fungal species and range expansions
Recent mycological studies have identified several new fungal species and documented the expansion of known fungal ranges. In Japan, researchers from the University of Tsukuba identified two mushroom species in managed lawns for the first time, including Aggregatorygma broadwayi, which was previously known from Grenada. The study highlights a lack of systematic attention to fungi in managed spaces like parks and sports grounds compared to forest habitats.
Additionally, research into fungal species descriptions has cataloged diverse specimens across various global regions. Identified species include new entries from Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, India, Iran, and Italy, spanning various habitats from subtropical rainforests to agricultural roots.
