Mykhailo Fedorov reportedly planning US trip amid political rift

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov is reportedly planning a trip to the United States, potentially as early as next week. While his team states the primary objective is to secure resources for new defense technology projects, the move comes amid growing political tension with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Fedorov has increasingly positioned himself as a critic of the current administration, recently calling for the establishment of a legal mechanism to hold elections during the ongoing war. This stance contrasts with President Zelenskyy’s position that elections should only occur after the conflict has concluded.

Fedorov, who was dismissed in July, has declined subsequent offers to serve as deputy prime minister or head of the state defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom. He was succeeded in his ministerial role by Yevhen Khmara.
