Mykonos Urban Planning Office sealed for illegal construction probe

The Mykonos Urban Planning Office has been sealed by authorities following prosecutorial intervention to investigate dozens of pending cases involving illegal constructions. The building remains closed, and employees are currently denied access to official files.

Local authorities, including Mayor Christos Veronis, have attributed the situation to malfunctions in the ‘e-poleodomia’ digital program used for processing urban planning documents and complaints. As a result, officials from the Syros Urban Planning Office have been requested to assist in auditing the system.

A specialized team, accompanied by a prosecutor, is expected to arrive on the island to conduct a thorough audit of the archives. This follows reports from the National Transparency Authority indicating significant delays in the service; specifically, out of 929 documents regarding illegal constructions over a 16-month period, 870 remained pending. Additionally, 392 out of 409 inspection requests had not been addressed.
