Myla village strike kills 38 after Russian drone hits ammunition depot

A Russian drone strike on an ammunition depot in the village of Myla, near Kyiv, has resulted in the deaths of at least 38 people and left 20 others injured. The attack, carried out on August 28 using a jet-powered Geran-4 drone, triggered explosions that lasted approximately six hours, destroying roughly 130 homes and various civilian structures.

The incident has sparked local anger toward Ukrainian authorities, with residents questioning why ammunition was stored so close to a residential area. Some villagers claimed they were unaware of the depot's presence, believing the site held humanitarian supplies. In response, the Security Service of Ukraine has launched an investigation into potential “military negligence” regarding the storage location.

This strike highlights a broader tactical shift in the conflict, as Russia increasingly utilizes jet-powered drones. According to the Ukraine Air Force, these drones are significantly harder to intercept than propeller-powered models, with interception rates dropping from over 90 percent to approximately 60 percent. The number of jet-powered drones deployed rose from about 1,500 in July to roughly 2,800 in August.
