Myślenice officials plan to replace existing hanging bridge
A political dispute has emerged in Myślenice regarding the planned construction of a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Raba River. The project, which includes the demolition of the existing characteristic “hanging bridge,” is part of a larger infrastructure initiative valued at over 13.5 million PLN.
Mayor Jarosław Szlachetka has stated that the investment will proceed according to previous announcements and the published tender. Local authorities argue that the current structure does not meet modern technical or functional requirements and that its condition is unsatisfactory. The new bridge is intended to be wider and more accessible for cyclists, parents with strollers, and individuals with limited mobility.
The municipality has secured over 11 million PLN in funding for the project. The tender process is ongoing, with a deadline for submitting bids set for September 14, 2026, and a target completion date of November 30, 2028. Opposition politicians have pledged to defend the existing structure against demolition.
