Myles Garrett to undergo knee surgery and enter injured reserve

Los Angeles Rams star defensive end Myles Garrett is undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery and has been placed on injured reserve. The decision follows a disappointing season debut against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, where Garrett recorded no tackles or sacks despite playing over 60 percent of the defensive snaps.

Head coach Sean McVay stated that while the team had attempted to manage Garrett’s knee swelling throughout training camp, his performance in a live game made it clear that surgery was the necessary course of action. Garrett, the reigning AP Defensive Player of the Year, will be sidelined for a minimum of four games.

The injury leaves a significant gap in the Rams' defense, especially as the team continues to manage the status of recently unretired defensive tackle Aaron Donald. To fill the void, the Rams may rely on second-year edge rusher Josaiah Stewart and veteran Byron Young.
