Mymensingh: Woman arrested for assaulting veterinarian and extortion

Police in Mymensingh have arrested Afrin Rashid Sejuti in connection with a violent assault on veterinarian Ashikur Rahman at his clinic, ‘Doctors Pet Care’. The attack, which occurred on August 21, involved the use of iron rods and shoes to beat the doctor and several others, including his wife and clinic staff.

According to the victim's complaint, the assailants had been demanding 500,000 BDT in extortion money for some time. During the incident, the attackers disconnected the CCTV system, stole approximately 320,150 BDT from the cash box, and caused roughly 180,000 BDT in property damage.

Talhajur Rahman Protik, a joint general secretary of the city Chhatra Dal, was also implicated in the attack and was seen filming the incident on a mobile phone. Following the viral spread of CCTV footage, the political organization expelled him. Teachers and students from the Veterinary Faculty of Bangladesh Agricultural University have held human chains to demand swift justice and exemplary punishment for those involved.
