Myspace signals potential return to social media market
Myspace owners have signaled a potential return for the social media platform, citing user fatigue with modern algorithms and a growing sense of nostalgia. Originally founded in 2003, Myspace once reached approximately 115 million monthly visitors by 2008.
Brothers Tim and Chris Vanderhook, who purchased the platform in 2011, have previously attempted to modernize the site to compete with Facebook. Despite a reported $150 million loss during previous modernization efforts, they indicated they are waiting for the right moment to relaunch.
The potential comeback coincides with a shift in user behavior among Millennials and Gen Z, who are increasingly seeking smaller digital communities to avoid the intense algorithmic focus and short-form video content prevalent on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
