N Chandrasekaran resigns as Tata Sons chairman FAST-MOVING

N Chandrasekaran has resigned as chairman of Tata Sons, the principal holding company of the $400-billion Tata Group. While he has tendered his resignation, he will continue to serve in his current role until his term concludes in February 2027.

The decision follows months of uncertainty regarding his reappointment as a director, which was scheduled for a vote at the company’s Annual General Meeting on August 18. The resignation is reportedly linked to ongoing tensions between Tata Sons and Tata Trusts, the group’s charitable arm that holds a 66% stake in the holding company.

Disagreements between the two entities have reportedly centered on board representation, long-term business strategy, and the potential public listing of Tata Sons. Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, had previously opposed Chandrasekaran’s reappointment, leading the board to defer a decision in February.

Following the news, shares of several Tata Group companies, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Tata Motors, experienced selling pressure and declined in market trading.
