N1 publisher applies for new news television channel in Croatia
Adria News, the publisher of N1, has submitted an application to the Croatian Media Council to launch a specialized news television channel in Croatia. The Media Council confirmed receipt of the application on September 23 and is expected to reach a decision within 30 days. Under the Electronic Media Act, the Council may consult with regulatory bodies in other EU member states before granting permission.
This application follows the late August acquisition of Adria News Network (ANN) by the Portuguese investment fund Alpac Capital. The takeover has been marked by significant personnel and programming changes across N1 stations in multiple countries, including the removal of Tihomir Ladišić, the long-standing news director and editor-in-chief of N1 Croatia.
In Serbia, the new management of Adria News Network made the decision to cancel the popular program ‘24 minutes with Zoran Kesić’ on the Nova S channel. This move prompted public protests in Belgrade led by journalistic and media organizations, which characterized the changes as an attempt to stifle media criticism.
