N26 launches Wero mobile payments in France and Germany

N26 has officially rolled out Wero, a European mobile payment wallet, to its customers in France and Germany. The service allows users to send money instantly 24/7 using only a recipient's mobile number or email address, eliminating the need to manually enter an IBAN.

Integrated directly within the N26 mobile application, the service utilizes the SEPA Instant credit transfer scheme. This transition from batch processing to individual real-time transactions represents a significant shift in the bank's technical architecture and system load management. N26 is implementing the rollout gradually to ensure infrastructure stability.

Developed by the European Payment Initiative, Wero currently serves approximately 25 million active users across Europe. Future updates are expected to expand the service's capabilities to include online payments and physical point-of-sale transactions.
