Na Hong-jin's film 'Hope' reaches 3 million viewers in South Korea

South Korean director Na Hong-jin’s sci‑fi thriller “Hope” has become the fastest local release of 2023 to attract 3 million cinema‑goers, surpassing that mark 11 days after its 15 May debut and maintaining the #1 position at the domestic box office.

By its ninth day the film logged 2.647 million admissions and a 64.8 % revenue share, with daily attendance falling to about 100 k as the pace slowed. The movie, starring Hwang Jung‑min, Jo In‑sung and Jung Ho‑yeon, depicts a mysterious alien encounter in the demilitarised‑zone village of Hopo‑haeng and has drawn mixed reactions over its CGI and dialogue.
