NABARD and MAHAPREIT Sign MoU to Boost Green Infrastructure in Rural India
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT), a Maharashtra government enterprise, signed a memorandum of understanding to finance and promote green, climate‑resilient infrastructure across rural India. The partnership will focus on strengthening villages, Panchayati Raj Institutions and community‑level projects, initially in Maharashtra. It combines NABARD’s expertise in rural development and climate finance with MAHAPREIT’s experience in climate‑focused infrastructure development. Priority areas include renewable energy, decarbonisation of government buildings, gram panchayat infrastructure, water‑pumping schemes, clean‑energy solutions for technical education institutes and hospitals, as well as biogas, biomass‑based bioenergy, and solar‑powered micro‑cold‑storage for village bodies. Dr. Shaji Krishnan V, Chairman of NABARD, said the MoU is a significant step toward a cleaner, greener rural India.
