Nabil Benabdallah appointed Morocco's Minister of National Education
Nabil Benabdallah has been appointed as Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Preschool, Vocational Training, and Qualification. Following the handover of duties from former minister Mohamed Saad Berrada on October 16, 2026, Benabdallah has signaled a focus on revitalizing the public school system to ensure equal opportunities and social justice.
Key priorities for the new minister include combating school dropout rates, improving learning quality, and reducing disparities between rural and urban educational institutions. Benabdallah has emphasized the importance of early childhood education and providing social support to low-income families to ensure student retention.
Regarding previous initiatives, Benabdallah addressed the ‘Pioneer Schools’ (مدارس الريادة) program. While acknowledging its positive aspects, he cautioned against focusing resources on specific institutions at the expense of the broader system, advocating instead for a widespread reform that benefits all public schools. His agenda also includes improving teacher training and working conditions, as well as enhancing Morocco’s performance in international assessments such as PISA, TIMSS, and PIRLS.
