Nabire authorities deploy 350 personnel to combat forest fires
Authorities in Nabire, Central Papua, have deployed approximately 350 joint personnel to combat forest and land fires. The task force, which includes members from the Central Papua Regional Police, Korem 173/PVB, BPBD, fire departments, and health services, has been operating since August 20, 2026. Efforts are concentrated in West Nabire and the Kimi region, with patrols also conducted in urban areas to monitor for new hotspots.
In addition to fire suppression, community leaders are addressing local security. Melkias Keiya, Head of the Meepago Regional Tribal Council, has urged residents to remain vigilant against provocations that could trigger social conflict. He emphasized the importance of peaceful communication and parental supervision to prevent citizens, particularly children, from being drawn into legal issues or unrest.
