Nabire distributes food aid to combat El Nino impacts

The Nabire Regency Government is distributing food aid to mitigate the impact of El Nino in several districts. Following the declaration of an El Nino emergency status in late August 2026, officials have begun delivering rice to affected communities to combat crop failures and drought.

In Napan District, Nancy Karolin Worabay, Chair of the Nabire Regional House of Representatives (DPRK), supervised the distribution of 1 ton of rice to each village. Similar aid efforts were carried out in Teluk Umar District, where 1 ton of rice per village was also allocated.

Officials emphasized the importance of strict oversight to ensure that the aid reaches the intended families and is not diverted. The distribution is intended to support residents facing agricultural losses and food insecurity caused by the prolonged dry season.
