NABU launches cork recycling campaign in Edeka stores

The German environmental organization NABU is conducting its KORKampagne through collection boxes located in Edeka supermarket branches. Customers are encouraged to deposit used bottle corks into these boxes to prevent them from being discarded as household waste.

According to project leader Guido Teenck, over one billion bottle corks are discarded annually in Germany. The collected corks are processed in non-profit workshops into eco-friendly insulation granules. This material serves as a sustainable alternative to plastic fibers for insulating roofs and floors.

The campaign, which links cork recycling to the benefit of cranes, aims to promote sustainable resource use while supporting conservation efforts.
