NABU warns against illegal disposal of garden waste in forests

The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) has issued a warning against the illegal disposal of garden waste, such as hedge clippings, shrubs, and grass, in forests or open fields.

According to NABU, dumping green waste in these areas is illegal and can result in significant fines, which may reach four or five-digit amounts depending on the volume and the specific federal state. Beyond the legal consequences, the organization warns that such actions damage soil quality and facilitate the spread of non-native species.

Proper disposal methods include using municipal green waste collection points, composting facilities, or organic waste bins. Alternatively, gardeners can use waste as natural fertilizer through on-site composting or hill beds.
