Quintana Roo advances rehabilitation of Chetumal's Nachan Ka’an stadium
The public works secretary of Quintana Roo, Rafael Lara Díaz, announced that technical studies and engineering surveys are about to begin for the rehabilitation of the Nachan Ka’an baseball stadium in Chetumal. The planning phase will start within roughly six weeks and will address the stadium’s chronic drainage problems, which cause locker‑room flooding during the rainy season.
The renovation will preserve the venue’s historic character, including restoring the traditional manual scoreboard and using regional building materials. Once completed, the upgraded stadium is intended to host not only baseball games but also concerts and other large‑scale events before the current state administration ends.
Coordination with the Comisión de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (CAPA) is part of the pre‑construction work to design a permanent hydraulic solution. The project also aims to improve accessibility, seating, ticket booths and services for people with disabilities, turning the site into a multifunctional sports and cultural hub.
