Nacional-AM reinstates coach Thiago Gomes after draw with Iguatu in Série D

Nacional Athletic Club of Manaus drew 1‑1 with Iguatu in the first leg of the Série D round‑of‑16 at the Ismael Benigno stadium on 19 May. Goals came from penalties: Renan opened scoring for Nacional, while Otacílio Marcos equalised after a rebound from Iguatu’s keeper.

Following the draw, Nacional terminated coach Júlio César, who had led the team for ten matches, and reappointed former manager Thiago Gomes. Gomes previously guided Nacional to the 2026 Amazonense championship, a 7‑0 victory over Paysandu, and a 70 % win rate in his earlier stint. He will lead the side in the second‑leg tie as the club seeks progression to the quarter‑finals and a place in Série C for 2027.
