Nacional coach João Gião readies team for Madeira derby and seeks new signings
C.D. Nacional will face C.S. Marítimo in the first Madeira derby of the season on Saturday, a match that also decides the Troféu Autonomia. Coach João Gião stressed that the game is important for the island and its supporters but warned that the club will not make any decisions that could jeopardise preparation for the opening league fixture against Santa Clara.
Gião confirmed that striker Chucho Ramírez will miss the derby after a foot injury that required stitches, adding that the club wants to avoid speculation about his possible departure. He praised Ramírez as the team captain and a key reference in the dressing‑room. Gião also highlighted the surprise impact of forward Pablo Ruan and said the squad is open to further reinforcements, stating, “We are aligned with the technical staff and the SAD administration – more players will arrive, and some may also leave.”
