Nacional Monte de Piedad strike prolongs closure, pledged items remain secured

The Nacional Monte de Piedad pawn‑shop network in Mexico has been shut down since October 2025 after roughly 1,800 workers began a strike over collective‑bargaining demands. The walkout has kept all 302 branches closed and no reopening date has been set.

Customers who left jewelry, watches, tools, electronics, documents or other valuables as collateral are being told that their items remain locked in the institution’s vaults. The organization says the pledged goods have not been removed or sold and will stay under custody until the labor dispute is resolved, even for borrowers who have already repaid their loans. Negotiations between the union and management continue, but operations cannot resume while the strike persists.
