NADDC and NYSC launch CNG retrofitting training for Nigerian youth

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has launched a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) retrofitting training programme in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The initiative aims to equip young Nigerians with technical skills necessary for the country’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy.

The pilot phase of the programme will train 300 corps members across six locations, with 50 participants selected from each center. Moving forward, the NADDC aims to train at least 1,000 corps members annually. The training covers CNG technology, vehicle conversion processes, and the operational dynamics of the alternative fuel sector.

NADDC Director-General Joseph Osanipin emphasized that skilled technicians, engineers, and safety professionals are essential to driving the CNG sector and the broader energy transition. The programme is being implemented under the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative, providing free certification to participants to foster employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
