Nadia: Three arrested in murder of Congress leader Anisur Rahman and son
Police in West Bengal's Nadia district have arrested three individuals in connection with the murders of Congress leader Anisur Rahman and his 24-year-old son, Abu Sufiyan. The arrests include Fatema Bibi, the Haranagar village panchayat chief associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC), along with her associates Ali Mandal and Mithun Sheikh.
The incident occurred on Saturday night near the Nagadi railway gate in the Nakashipara area. According to reports, assailants intercepted the victims' vehicle, opened fire, and subsequently attacked the father and son with sharp weapons. Both men died at the scene.
Local Congress leaders have alleged that the killings were politically motivated, pointing to Jubbar Sheikh—an influential TMC leader currently in judicial custody and the husband of Fatema Bibi—as the suspected mastermind. The Congress party claims the attack was an attempt to suppress their growing influence in the region following recent assembly elections. Police have sought custody of the arrested individuals for further investigation.
