Nadine Keßler declines German State Minister for Sport role
Nadine Keßler, the former German national football player and current UEFA Director for women's football, has reportedly declined an offer to join Chancellor Friedrich Merz's cabinet as State Minister for Sport and Volunteerism.
The vacancy arose following a cabinet reshuffle in which the previous minister, Christiane Schenderlein, transitioned to the Health Ministry. In response to Keßler's refusal, the Chancellery is reportedly reviewing a new list of potential candidates, which may include prominent figures from Olympic sports.
While Keßler has declined the political role, her professional future remains a subject of interest; reports suggest the Frauen-Bundesliga is considering her as a candidate for its Managing Director position.
