NADMA conducts cloud seeding to mitigate haze in Klang Valley

The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) coordinated a cloud seeding operation on September 19 to mitigate haze and improve air quality in the Klang Valley. The operation targeted Selangor and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The initiative was prompted by PM2.5 Air Pollutant Index (API) readings exceeding 150 for more than 24 hours. These unhealthy air quality conditions are linked to hot weather and reduced rainfall during the Southwest Monsoon.

NADMA collaborated with the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). The RMAF provided assets, including a C-130 Hercules aircraft, to deploy salt solution in areas with suitable atmospheric conditions for cloud formation. The success of the operation remains dependent on prevailing weather and the presence of appropriate cloud cover.
