NADMA receives RM260 million to enhance Malaysia's disaster preparedness
The Malaysian government has allocated RM260 million to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) for 2027 to enhance disaster response capabilities. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the funds will be used to upgrade essential equipment, such as boats, water pumps, and water filtration machines, to support rescue operations and address water supply disruptions during emergencies.
The funding aims to assist various agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Armed Forces, and the Civil Defence Force, which currently face equipment shortages. Additionally, the government plans to increase home repair assistance for disaster victims from RM5,000 to RM10,000 and intends to establish permanent evacuation centers in every state, prioritizing flood-prone areas.
Speaking at the launch of the 2026 National Preparedness Month in Ipoh, Ahmad Zahid emphasized that disaster readiness must become a continuous culture rather than a seasonal response. He urged states to implement the National Disaster Risk Reduction Policy 2030 through localized action plans to ensure comprehensive protection for citizens.
