NAFDAC seizes ₦300m worth of banned alcoholic drinks in Lagos
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized alcoholic beverages valued at approximately ₦300 million during enforcement operations in Lagos State. The seized items consist of prohibited alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets and PET bottles smaller than 200ml.
Raids were conducted at several major locations, including Ile-Epo Market, Ojuwoye Market in Mushin, and Oke-Arin Market on Lagos Island. During these operations, officials evacuated numerous cartons of the banned products and arrested several distributors and retailers. Investigations suggest that some traders were hoarding the prohibited goods due to rising prices and increased demand.
The crackdown is part of a nationwide effort to enforce a Federal Government ban on small-format alcoholic packaging. NAFDAC has previously ordered manufacturers to recall these products and warned that the ban remains strictly in force.
