NAFDAC strengthens blood product regulation and launches alcohol crackdown

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is implementing new regulatory measures to enhance the safety and quality of blood and blood products in Nigeria. Director-General Prof Mojisola Adeyeye stated that the initiative aligns with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations to treat blood products as essential medicines requiring strict oversight throughout the collection, testing, and distribution chain.

In a separate enforcement action, NAFDAC has partnered with the Ogun State Police Command to crack down on the sale of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and small PET bottles under 200ml. This operation, which began in Abeokuta and will expand across Ogun State, aims to mitigate health risks and reduce accessibility to alcohol for minors by seizing unregistered or adulterated products.
