NAFDAC raids Lagos factory, seizes N2bn in counterfeit drinks
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a large-scale counterfeit beverage operation at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex. During a raid on a facility in Ojo, officials discovered more than 20 illegal stores concealed within makeshift parking spaces.
Two suspects, identified as Chibuzor Okafor and William John, were arrested. They are alleged to have been involved in blending counterfeit versions of popular alcoholic brands, revalidating expired energy drinks and wines, and stockpiling prohibited imported goods. The agency reported seizing products with an estimated value exceeding N2 billion.
In a broader report on enforcement, NAFDAC Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye disclosed that between January and August 2026, the agency conducted 213 raids and recorded 474 new cases. These operations resulted in 821 product seizure entries, 179 establishment closures, and 52 arrests across various sectors, including cosmetics, drugs, and food.
