Venice Film Festival and NAFFIT festival launch in Europe

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival has commenced on Lido, featuring 21 films competing for the Golden Lion. The festival opened with Danny Boyle’s ‘Ink’, a film exploring media power and sensationalism. During the opening ceremonies, George Clooney was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement; in his speech, he addressed the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and deepfake technology.

In Serbia, the National Film and Television Festival (NAFFIT) has opened in Zlatibor. Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković inaugurated the event, noting its role in promoting Serbian cultural identity. The festival features international guests, including German actress Nastassja Kinski, and has received support from delegations from Russia and China. While the festival aims to celebrate diverse creative professions, it faces a boycott from Serbian film associations.

Additionally, the 19th Leskovac International Film Festival (LIFFE) is set to take place in September, focusing on regional cinema from the former Yugoslavia.
