Nafpaktos hosts archival exhibition on siege and liberation

An archival exhibition titled ‘Nafpaktos: Siege and Liberation’ is being held at the Dimitrios and Aegle Botsaris Foundation to commemorate the 455th anniversary of the Battle of Nafpaktos and 197 years since the city's liberation.

Co-organized by the General State Archives of Greece, the Municipality of Nafpaktia, and the ‘O Epachtos’ Brotherhood of Nafpaktioi in Attica, the event features maps, drawings, portraits, and archival evidence for the first time. These materials document the siege, the strategic importance of the fortress, and the city's transition to freedom.

The exhibition holds particular significance as it takes place in the birthplace of Giannis Vlachogiannis, the founder and first Director of the General State Archives. Vlachogiannis, born in Nafpaktos in 1867, was instrumental in preserving the archives of the Greek Revolution and the early decades of the Greek state.
