Nafplio commemorates 100 years since the birth of poet Nikos Karouzos

Nafplio is hosting a three-day commemorative event titled ‘The Seeker of the Deep Surface – Perspectives on the Poetry of N. Karouzos’ to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of poet Nikos Karouzos (1926–1990). Organized by the Municipality of Nafplio in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the program includes academic presentations, a round table discussion, and an art exhibition by Haris Tsekoura.

The event features musical performances by the Argolis Music School and a documentary screening at the Fougaro Artcenter. Supporting institutions include the Peloponnese Region, the Center for Greek Studies at Harvard University, and the ‘Palamidis’ Progressive Association of Nafplio.

Literary reflections on Karouzos highlight his unique ability to transcend the Argolic school and post-war Greek poetry, offering a universal vision of human fate. Scholars note his distinct creative synthesis of Orthodoxy and Communism, roots inherited from his upbringing in Nafplio.
