Naftali Bennett proposes new Israeli security and deterrence strategy

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has unveiled a ‘new security concept’ for the Beyachad party, proposing a fundamental shift in Israel’s regional deterrence and domestic policies. Bennett stated that Israel must move away from the ‘containment and passivity’ of the Netanyahu era toward a strategy of initiative and decisiveness.

A central pillar of his proposal involves a direct military response against Iran if Hezbollah launches an attack against Israel. Additionally, Bennett suggested declaring Qatar a ‘hostile state’ and reducing the roles of Qatar and Turkey in Gaza, proposing instead that Egypt take on more responsibility while ensuring Israel maintains military freedom of action.

Domestically, Bennett vowed to implement full military conscription without exemptions, specifically targeting the lack of service among ultra-Orthodox men. He also emphasized the importance of economic and technological strength, advocating for a core curriculum in ultra-Orthodox schools that includes math, English, and technology, while threatening to withhold state funding from institutions that do not meet these standards.
