Filmmaker Nag Ashwin stated that the commercial and critical success of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has provided the Indian film industry with the financial and creative confidence to pursue more ambitious science-fiction projects rooted in mythology.

Ashwin noted that Indian mythology contains concepts regarding time, immortality, and advanced worlds that possess significant futuristic potential. He described his 2024 film as ‘only the beginning’ of exploring these themes. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is a Telugu-language epic set in a dystopian future that serves as the first installment in a planned cinematic universe.
